A Journey of Self-Realization

Hey folks, it's been a while - a journey, for sure.

Remember how I said that at the start of 2021, I was optimistic about myself tackling about a million things at once? It turns out - yeah, no. Haha.

Long story short, I was burnt out to bits and stuck in the inertia of a debilitating sense of confidence, navigating my newfound diagnosis of ADHD, and just being overwhelmed by life in general. And I thought my dream internship at 2C Media would be what revives me.

And you know what? Even though I didn't expect it to be so marketing-focused, it kinda did. But there was a lot of personal struggle behind it. Having had come out of an environment where my priorities in life were to hand in that next assignment for about 19 years, I was finally faced with an environment that was a little different.

It's a small team for sure, but the folks at 2C were incredibly independent folks who were not just creative, but they owned their creativity and it showed in their work. It was super cool learning from all of them, but I had to come to terms with an aspect of myself hidden deep within the recesses of my mind: I did not know how to deal with my own autonomy.

As a creative, I think autonomy in work is pretty much makes one a creative. "You doing you" is pretty much the whole point of it. But I had been holding off on my personal pursuits for school, work, band, family, etcetera. I had this huge barrier that just...overwhelmed me whenever I'd suddenly get a large chunk of time and freedom. And oh god, what a feat it would be for me to work through that.

But hey, that's what this gap year will be for me. I didn't JUST learn certain life skills at 2C - I also learned a lot about time remapping, colour grading, and timelapses (which I think is my new favourite kind of shoot. It's so meditative). But it really was the type of people and environment I was in - along with the tremendous support they gave me along the way - that has me set for my next venture in my creative journey: working on MY style.

I think I'd want to start streaming video games...
